Echo Salford

Echo Salford is an interactive augmented reality (AR) trail experience that takes users across the places and spaces of Salford’s iconic musical and cultural history, from MediaCityUK to Salford Lads Club, the Working Class Movement Library, Islington Mill, and the infamous Kings Arms pub amongst others.

Along the trail users are guided by digital 'holograms' of some of the movers and shakers of Salford culture - Bez, Maxine Peake, Peter Hook and Cheddar Gorgeous, to name a few. It also features gamified experiences and digital collectables.

More than just a digital trail and a website, the whole Echo Salford project lasted between 2021 and 2023, and across its various modules and platforms uncovered, restored and shared important heritage content, supported new and future music in Salford, and provided career opportunities for students and early-stage professionals as they started their media production careers.
